Quantities are worked at the tighter end of the coverage range, so you will not run short. On smooth sanded wood a gallon can reach 400 sq ft, on rough sawn as little as 150. How much your wood absorbs depends on the species, the mill finish and how dry it is.
Don’t forget the cut ends
End grain soaks up water much faster than face grain. It is where checks and splits start, and it is the cheapest thing on the list.
Before you place a large order
Try the colour on a photo of your own wood, then order pint samples, $10 each, to test it on your own wood.
